The 1996 Summer Centenial Olympic Games

Official Venue Map

1996 Olympic MapThis is the front cover of the 1996 SUMMER CENTENIAL OLYMPIC GAMES which was produced by The H.M. Gousha Company in the spring of 1996 and distributed exclusively by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games at the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta in July of 1996 (The Map became the property of Rand McNally during the acquisition of Gousha in April 1996). 5,000,000 (five million!) were printed by Eastwood Printing of Denver, Colorado and shipped to Atlanta and other key points in the United States. Map production took more than six months including all proofing and the printing process itself spanned nearly 2-1/2 months. This was the last product I worked on, not only the production of, but also coordinating the printing. The entire map (measuriing approximately 18" x 34") was produced on a Macintosh computer using primarily Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Quark Xpress. The film was imaged by Command P of San Antonio under the watchful eye of Jerry Williams (Who has since taken a key leadership position at Digital Press & Imaging of San Antonio). Jerry is what I consider to be the master of digital prepress in the San Antonio/Austin area. If you were at the Olympic Games, you probably received one of these maps. If not, well, you didn't. But at least you can see it here, and I hope this short diatribe was enjoyable and gave you some insight into the production of this map.
